Reading Record 2024

.

Update about Interlibrary Loan: Van delivery will begin on Monday, August 26. They will need a week to run through routes while picking up items from libraries that need to head back to their home libraries. Interlibrary loan for van delivery will restart through our ILS systems on Tuesday, September 3rd.

.

Individual patrons will be limited to 3 requests for 2 or 3 weeks beginning the week of 9/3. This will help library staff and STAT delivery to gradually resume ILL processing over the first few weeks of the service.

.

Reciprocal borrowing can continue. However if you borrow this way, you must return materials to the owning library. See list of participating libraries. If you do not have a reciprocal borrowing card, you may request one. If the barcode on your library card has faded, please return your card to the library. A new barcode printed on a laser printer will be affixed to your card.

.

See the Circulation and Borrowing Policy for membership information.

.

The winner of this year’s quilt raffle was Joan Tax. Thank you to all who entered, and thank you to Sue Chapin for making and donating it. Congratulations, Joan!

.

Thank you to all the people and businesses who donated and who bought tickets for the Pick-a-Prize Raffle. It was a successful fundraiser for the library and a lot of fun for all!

.

Reminder: If you received notification that you won a prize, you have until Friday, August 30th to pick it up at the library or  a new name will be drawn.

Storytelling Through Fabric

.

Belfast fiber artist Jane McLean will lead a free workshop based on her exhibit of 20 12-inch panels called “Circles of My Life: A Fiber Art Celebration of My First 75 Years,” which will be exhibited at the Liberty Library during September.

.

Workshop – Monday, September 16 @ 10:00 – 11:30

Attendees will view several of these richly embellished panels. They will learn about Jane’s process of telling a personal story through textiles in traditional patterns. Then they will create a framed 8″ x 8″ wall hanging based on the Folded Star pattern. All materials will be provided, and no sewing is required.

.

Limited to 15 participants. Ages 12 and up. Registration required.

Metal Sculpture Exhibit

THE LAST WEEK!

“The Recyclist” – Found and collected metals & other objects, enamel

Drew Merlo loves re-purposing collected and found materials, then giving them new life. His exhibit of metal sculptures is on display at the Liberty Library in July and August.

.

In 2019, his dream became a reality upon moving to Liberty, Maine and setting up a home workshop. This is his “happy place’ where he spends combing through new inventory, working away at his bench, or simply searching for inspiration.

.

Drew’s unique sculptures are for sale and he is generously donating 10% of sales to the library. Follow “dmetalart” on Instagram.

The Zenbooth

The library has added a privacy booth! The Zenbooth is available for you to use if you need to participate in an online meeting or conference, take a phone call,  a telehealth appointment, or just need a quiet place to work. Layers of acoustic insulation and felt panels dampen sound and enable private conversations. You can bring your own device or use the library’s laptop computer. The Zenbooth has an automatic dimmable light and fan, an adjustable desk, and a ceiling skylight and full clear door so you won’t feel claustrophobic. (The above photo was taken with the door open because of the glare.)

.

Libraries aren’t quiet places as they used to be. The library is a multi-use community space, but the Zenbooth gives an individual space to work in silence and perhaps tap into their zen energy!

.

The Zenbooth is thanks to state grant funding through Remote Work Through Libraries, a part of Governor Mill’s Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan. We also added an outlet in the “Where the Sidewalk Ends” area, a color printer, and another laptop.
