Rumors of coming Cold and Darkness spread through the woods until a birch tree stump uses wisdom and humor to calm the animals’ fears.
The tale was Inspired by Gluskap, the heroic and kind-hearted figure of Wabanaki legends. Portraits of Wabanaki tribal elders were used as a springboard for the extraordinary paintings that make this a children’s book like no other.

Haystack Mountain Trail is behind Walker Elementary School. This 1.1-mile footpath loop winds through a mixed northern hardwoods forest with a short spur to the open summit.
