Charcoal Drawings Exhibit

Emma Schurink creates charcoal drawings of the natural world: alive, mysterious, organic, and meditative. Having grown up in the hustle and bustle of New York City, an environment that for her was over stimulating, she has sought out life among the trees. She is drawn to the intensity of charcoal because of its ability to emphasize visual contrast, whether it’s between light and shadow, rough and smooth, or negative and positive space. For her, drawing is a practice that deepens her awareness and understanding. When she draws, she observes, and when she observes she gets to know her subject. She sees what she wouldn’t typically see as she passes by. Emma minored in visual art at Kenyon College and lives in Searsmont, Maine. View her website at www.emmaschurinkart.com
