Beginning in 2024, the State of Maine and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program that puts books into the hands of children, will be administered by the Maine State Library. The Imagination Library mails free books directly to the homes of children age birth to five every month. Each book includes reading tips for that specific title.

Since the August update, the Imagination Library in Waldo County has received $7500. These funds will let us continue to send out books until October of 2026, but $4,778 is needed to be able to send books out through December 2026.
No one wants to see this program discontinued, and that will mean more participation in fund raising from each of us. Because Maine State funding will not be continued after June of 2026, we face a funding challenge. Costs for calendar year 2027 may be as high as $25,000.
