Beginning in 2024, the State of Maine and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program that puts books into the hands of children, will be administered by the Maine State Library. The Imagination Library mails free books directly to the homes of children age birth to five every month. Each book includes reading tips for that specific title.

As of June 2026, the State of Maine will not be able to cover the match funding we have enjoyed to lower our costs of sending books to Waldo County children. So far, the Maine State Library has paid ½ of the cost of providing books for each of our children. Cuts in funding mean that these funds will not be available after next June. This will increase our cost of participation greatly. In order to continue sending books to Waldo County children through calendar year 2026, we will need to raise $14,000. Costs for calendar year 2027 may be as high as $26,000. If we don’t raise the money, this program discontinued.
