Buy a sheet of 25 tickets for $10. You decide which prize you want to win; you can put one ticket in each bag or put all 25 in one bag. The drawing will begin at around 6:30pm after the Ice Cream Sandwich Social. You do not need to be present to win, except for the door prize.

Donations for the raffle should be brought to the library by Friday, August 21st.

Ice Cream Sandwich Social

This is our summertime event to say “thank you” to all our patrons who support us. We will be giving away ice cream sandwiches made by John’s Ice Cream. Following the ice cream giveaway will be the drawings for the Pick-A-Prize Raffle. Both events will take place outdoors, weather permitting.

Please bring your own chair.

You will be able to purchase raffle tickets at the Social.

.“Blooming Night” is 56 by 64 inches. Sewn by an anonymous donor. Quilted by Northern Exposure Quilting.

Tickets are $5.00. Winner will be drawn on August 22nd. The quilt is on display at the library.

As Julie promised in her introductory talk, she  will be available on the above dates for a series of learn-the-plants drop-in sessions at the library. Bring in plants to identify and she will help you make a plan to eradicate them, if desired. You do not need to have attended her introductory talk in order to participate in these drop-in sessions.

Joseph Barberio has returned with new sculptural clay forms. His approach ensures the singularity of each piece, since he builds either by coiling or forms a piece from hand rolled slabs. All his work is bisque fired in the normal fashion, then goes through a special, second firing with sawdust in small metal barrels. While he begins each piece with a specific design in mind, Joseph often lets the clay “talk” to him during the slow shaping process. His aim is sometimes sculptural rather than functional thus a few of his pieces are closed, mid-sized forms. None are considered food-safe, though his vase-like forms are treated on the interior to allow them to hold water.

Judith Fischer, his wife, is also displaying oil paintings and tiny acrylic paintings. Her painting has brought her full circle through watercolors and pastels, back to the oils of her earliest training where she was first taught to translate colors, perspective, composition, design, and the patterns of light and dark.  She aims continually for more looseness and personal interpretation in each piece she creates. Art, for her, is a manifestation of the adage that “the journey is much more important than the destination.”

Joseph and Judith create art at their studio in Hostile Valley in Liberty. Their exhibit will be at the library during July and August. All of their items are for sale with 50% of the sales being donated to the library.

NDEC Classes

There are now 17 on demand classes available at Liberty Library Digital Opportunity Program. These classes are only available to Liberty Library members. You will need to enroll if you have not taken classes with NDEC at the Liberty Library before. Then create an account or login. These are videos that you play, pause, and start as you desire. The latest 3 classes added are:

• iPhone basics
• Android basics
• Windows 11

Also available through this Digital Opportunity Partner  program are in person classes at the library. Anyone may attend these. The next 3 classes scheduled are on Mondays at 10:30:

• August 3 – Basic Internet Safety
• August 10 – Identifying Frauds and Scams
• August 17 – Keeping your Online Accounts Safe

The deadline has been extended for some free online live interactive Classes for Mainers until August 31st.  Other classes are available at a cost of $35 per hour. See All Classes that are available at NDEC.

Hector Fox and the Map of Mystery by Astrid Sheckles is the 4th Hector Fox book that will be featured on the StoryWalk®.

Haystack Mountain Trail is a 1.1-mile footpath loop winds through a mixed northern hardwoods forest with a short spur to the open summit.
