Poetry Express

Register now for participation in the Poetry Express. Poetry Express is a competitive application program from the Maine Humanities Council and the Maine State Library. Their goal is to connect libraries and local poets in sharing Maine’s poetry with their community. Liberty Library is one of five libraries in the state to be selected this year.

We have partnered with Midcoast Conservancy in hosting Poetry Express event. We are hoping for participation from a strong cross-section from our community, age 12+. You do not have to reside in Liberty or Montville to participate.

When you register, you will receive a notebook of poetry and agree to:

  • Attend the Poetry Workshop with Ellen Taylor on Monday, Sept. 16, 6:30-8:00pm.
  • Participate in the public performance of the Community Poetry Reading on Monday, Sept. 23, 6:30pm.
  • Read through the notebook of poems and choose 3 for the Poetry Workshop and that you wish to share at the Community Poetry Reading.
  • Invite your family and friends to attend the Community Poetry Reading.

The poems were selected by Ellen Taylor, and Barb Rehmeyer. They relate to our theme of the Natural World/Autumn/Small Town Life. There are a limited number of notebooks. Please register by August 31st.

Sometimes poetry is the only form of language that can express the complexity and depth of our emotions.
